I hope it's not too soon for this, but . . .

Ok, I'm all about orange and maroon effect day. I wore my orange, I wore brown pants, I looked like a turkey ALL DAY. My heart breaks for VA Tech, some alumni of my school were in those rooms and buildings.

BUT

This whole "we are all hokies" thing has GOT TO STOP. I am NOT a hokie. I am TARHEEL and I will always be a TARHEEL. Thats what that whole born, bred, and dead thing means, people!!

I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.

Who Knew???

I discovered this because they basically mail bomb me, but The Next (the knot) has some REALLY delicious looking recipes.

Things here are very weird. They have been covering the Va Tech stuff more than the average amount. They have announced the names of victims on the local news. We aren't allowed to turn our tv's on at school, they even cut off the cable feed in one of the other district high schools, and the kids coming home from Va Tech for the rest of the week (they canceled classes, duh) aren't allowed in the building. Most of those kids come back to say high to people everytime their home (way more than I think is normal, but that's a separate issue) They're trying to incubate our kids from all of it, which I understand, but I'm not sure it's possible and I'm not sure I'd agree with it if it was. I can't imagine that kind of tragedy invading my happy little college life.

In other news, we still have a hole in our fence, and with the high winds we've been having, I hope we don't have another one, soon (we have another dead tree.) We did, however, finally buy a lawn mower. Now we just need a weed waker and we will be completely domesticated.

those poor kids and their parents.

Maybe not the best decision . . .

So we decided to put in a back gate. We thought "what could be nicer than having a convenient entrance onto our neighbors muddy side yard?" So, we pushed the big dead tree over in our backyard into our fence and onto their driveway. Perfecto!

No, really, a big storm blew over a big dead tree and now we have a big headache.

Not. Funny.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Ty Lawson will return to North Carolina for his sophomore season instead of entering the NBA draft.

Lawson, who had the best assist-turnover ratio in the Atlantic Coast Conference, announced his decision Tuesday night during the Tar Heels' annual awards ceremony at the Dean Smith Center.

He was the second member of the Tar Heels' freshman class this week to say he would return to school next season, joining shooting guard Wayne Ellington.

Two other North Carolina stars -- Brandan Wright and Tyler Hansbrough -- have not yet announced their plans.

Lawson ranked fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 10.2 points, and his assist-turnover ratio of 2.57 was the best ever by a North Carolina freshman.

Lawson's announcement was notable for its comic timing -- it came during his acceptance speech after he was honored for leading the team in assists.

"After thinking about things, talking to my parents, I think it would be best if I took my skills to the NBA. I'm sorry," Lawson said.

That drew Dead silence from the crowd of about 1,000.

"I'm just playing -- I'll be back next year," Lawson said to cheers and applause.

The Tar Heels (31-7) shared their ACC regular-season championship, won their first conference tournament since 1998 and were seeded No. 1 in the East Regional.

Their season ended in the East Regional finals, where they blew an 11-point lead to Georgetown.

Ducks and geese and mice gonna SCURRY

Do you ever sing the words to songs wrong just to annoy your significant other? You know, completely out of love?

Before you say it, please don't bring any "doorknob says" "doormouse says" debates into this, if you know what I'm talking about.

Happy Birthday To us!

Just Because

This is what I woke up to saturday

Isn't it pretty?? You know what's NOT pretty? What I saw next.
Yes, that is what you think it is, an OPEN SUN ROOF. Let's have a look inside.

Le Sigh.

an Easter miracle . . .

no offense to the REAL Easter miracle, but this is a pretty big deal in Rachel World.

I am a huge fan of Pilots G2 Pens. No, really, I love them. They're great. And I'm a pretty picky pen person. I've been known to spend like 100 dollars on a really nice pen (which got stolen by students, twice.) Especially the light blue, purple, and pink ones, which are perfect for grading papers. (you're not supposed to grade papers in red anymore, it's bad for self esteem.) I've always lamented that I have to buy them in packs that also include black (which is good) green, dark blue, and (the hated) red. I've always said (just ask hubbles) "why can't them make a pack of just the colors I like???" and then, today, at target, I found THIS.(Ignore the green one, google images let me down a little)

ahhh.

Well, to heck with them, then.

FINE. Its going to be cold for a few days. I get it. It's FINE, really. I'll jut keep covering my plants at night and hope for the best.

If its going to be like that, though, I'm going to have to find something really tasty and delicious to make for dinner. Something that I have to cover and bake for awhile. Something that's a little sweet and a little savory, maybe a little delicious. Time to pull out the big guns, time to make pork chop deliciousness.

This is how it goes.

You will need 6 porkchops, some flour, salt, and pepper, about 3 apples (granny smith is good) and 4 sweet potatoes.

Cut the sweet potatoes and apples into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch (core the apples)

Combine the flour, salt and pepper on a plate. Dredge the porkchops in it, then brown them in a pan.

Place the porkchops in a 2 1/2 qt casserole. Layer sweet potatoes over them, then sprinkle them with brown sugar. Put some apples on top of that, then repeat one more time.

Bake at 350 for awhile.

Its delicious.

Seestur: but it was a SPANISH SPEAKING TELEMARKETER

Ok, the worm farm is G-ROSS. But its going to be really good for the garden. At least, thats what I keep telling myself.
