Getting carried away . . .
This whole BPA thing has me thinking what other chemicals I can eliminate from my life, especially after I read pets have 2-5 times as much of common toxins in their bodies as people do. It makes sense when you think about it, as the NPR piece put it: when you walk across the floor your body absorbs some of the chemicals that are on it, when you lay on the floor for a few hours, then lick your fur, you absorb even more!
I also worry about the respiratory effects of chemicals, and wonder if Todd's cluster headaches don't have something to do with common household toxins. I have decided to take the same approach to cleaning as I do to food: if I can't pronounce it, I best avoid it.
So far, I have found two excellent substitutes for the chemicals I used to use: a microfiber mop (100 dollars on amazon; 20 dollars at BJ's,) and these handy microfiber cleaning cloths (11 dollars at Ukrops, I dont' know where you NC yokels can get some.) They both work FABULOUSLY, and, although they are a higher initial outlay, they use only water!
Edit: look how nice I am, you can get both from QVC for 30 bucks. http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.aol_refer.false.tpl.detail.msn_refer.false.item.V24246.ref.GBA?cm_ven=GOOGLEBASE&cm_cat=For%20the%20Home&cm_pla=Floorcare%20&cm_ite=V24246
(it looks like amazon has a mop for 20 bucks, too, if youre like me and have Prime)

Maybe I already mentioned this, but we've been using Method cleaning products. After my weirdo outbreak of eczema and sensitivity to chemical smells, the fragrance free/dye free cleaning spray has been great. I believe their products are made from plants.
I recently got some microfiber towels for the kitchen just for cleaning up spills and stuff. They ARE great!
method is definitely great, we use their hand soap.
they may nicely fill may last two problems, too: carpet cleaner and bathroom cleaner!
